TAG TUESDAY - ROCK POOLS AND BEACH FINDS

Hello everyone, hope you have all had some sunshine this week.  What a joy it has been to be at the seaside stitching my tag this week.

For my tag this week I picked a handful of shells and interesting beach finds from my collection and stitched them onto my tag.  Most of them had holes in them to sew through, others I just sewed over  to attach them to the tag. I used craft vylene covered in purply-green silk for the base tag and used various threads to stitch the shells on, and embroider in between. I then filled in the gaps with pearls and turquoise beads and sequins. 

 The tag is finished with a tie of turquoise threads and ribbons with beads and pearls.   Thanks for looking, have a wonderful creative week.  Bye for now,

TAG TUESDAY- SEA BIRDS

Seagulls always seem to be getting a bad press with their reputation for scavenging, etc.

For the  SEABIRDS theme I decided to base my tag on a seagull with a difference - Jonathan Livingston Seagull, from the story by Richard Bach.  I love this book and it was great to read it again before making my tag.

For this gull, it was not eating that mattered, but flight.  More than anything else Jonathan Livingston Seagull loved to fly.  Flight for the joy of flying.

To make the tag, I photocopied a silhouette photo from the back of the book onto some cloudy sky paper.  Then I wrote a small excerpt from the book using silver ink. 

Jonathan held in thought an image of the great gull-flocks on the shore of another time, and he knew with practised ease that he was not bone and feather but a perfect idea of freedom and flight, limited by nothing at all.

 The tag is finished with some blue ric-rac at the bottom,  white and grey threads for a tie with a small seagull feather.

I had trouble taking a photo that showed the true colour of the tag.   This photo of the tag taken before it was finished shows the actual colour a bit better.

TAG TUESDAY - SWIMMING

At the first sign of sunshine last Thursday we got in the car and headed  for the beach,  but the brightness was short-lived and it has rained here in Bournemouth ever since.  Bailey wasted no time getting in the waves for a swim, and she is the star of my swimming tag this week.  

I wrapped a long strip of frayed blue organza around a craft vylene tag.  This covered both sides of my tag.  On one side I used some homemade silk paper (made with particularly curly silk throwsters!) to give the effect of surf. This was similar to last week's SEASIDE TAG ; here they are together to show the difference:

On the front I attached  a photo of Bailey doggy-paddling in the water.  I needle-felted some curly silk behind the photo to continue the surf  in the picture.  Below the photo I printed the words  “Come on in . . . the water’s lovely”.  I used a decorative border punch and added a few shimmer dots.

Tag is finished with a silver ric-rac tie.

TAG TUESDAY - SEASIDE

Happy holidays everyone! Happy 4th July to all those on the other side of the ocean!

For this tag I was inspired by words that evoke the unspoilt seaside.  These words were written on some blue and gold swirly fabric with white acrylic using my tiny flat paintbrush and a dip pen.  On the bottom of the tag I have tried to get the effect of surf on the shore with some silver and blue ric-rac,  needle-felted in place with some curly silk throwsters .  There is more needle-felted surf at the top.  

On the other side,  I have covered the tag with strips of frayed organza in blue and green.  On the bottom is more needle-felted silk and a few sea shells.  The tag is finished with a swirly, glittery organza ribbon.

For my other tag I made some seaside inchies with shells and some sparkly charms. The one on the bottom right might be a parasol, but with the current weather here in Bournemouth, an umbrella is more appropriate! and its far too cold for ice-cream! What's happening to our Seasons?  

This was the view from the beach hut at Fishermans Walk on 6 March; I suspect its not so bright today!
